Is time travel possible?
I just heard some things on the radio about time travel and it named some well known scientists and theories that ultimately seemed flawed to me for a number of various reasons. But rather then argue on that level which I’m not very qualified for. I’ve decided on a much more practical yet equally scientific way to prove if time travel is possible. The scientific community as a whole needs to get together and declare a day in the near future.
This day will be significant because:
A) It will be a day that goes down in history as the day we were visited by somebody who travelled in time from our future.
B) On that day, all scientists will agree that time travel is impossible and denounce all theories stating otherwise.
“But Ed – won’t part B ensure time travel never happens?”
No – it will ensure that the person who unlocks time travel goes to the designated day to re-assure the rest of the scientific community that it is indeed possible, thus allowing the community to continue progressing at it’s own pace and eventually lead to the future events that cause the unlocker of time travel to go back in the first place. It will create a scenario where not altering our timeline could generate the paradox as opposed to the normal theory that interfering with a past in time travel causes damage.
This is undeniable logic. The only possible flaw is that it would only demonstrate that travelling to the past is impossible. But then again – it’s the only significant form of time travel since we’re already travelling to the future at the speed of life.
I offer it as a challenge to all scientists. Are egos too frail to accept this? Will scientists have too much difficulty accepting that the backwards mentality of enforcing a culture of closed mindedness may actually be the key to unlocking a future of greatness?
This challenge extends to all scientists who work in a field where time travel is a derived theory of daily observations and operations.
On a philosopical level, it can pose another question. What if time travel is still possible in spite of not being visited? It could mean that time travel is unlocked so far in the future that either mankind decides we aren’t ready to even begin to comprehend it at this juncture, or that this date and all memory of it’s desired significance was lost through the passage of time. In the event that it’s forgotten, it would have also been forgotten that humans of our time swore off acknowledging the possibility of time travel. This would indicate that we as a race would have to remain consistent with dismissing the possibility of time travel should there be no visit on the declared day in order to allow for this future where it’s ultimately unlocked. Simply put – a non-event on the declared day would undeniably mean that we are NOT ready for time travel. It could also mean that we as a race should deny that it’s even possible.
My thoughts on the matter…
*spoiler*
It’s not possible – and I have mathmatic proof that’s not in wide circulation as of yet. The challenge is superficial to me but I’m hoping that presenting it would get people thinking enough to seek out that same proof I’ve found.
